Dr. Hutta's office is donating $5 to the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research for each patient who opts to wear pink o-rings in his or her braces. If patients post photos of their braces on Facebook, Hutta will donate an additional $5.
Hutta says increasing awareness about breast cancer empowers his patients.
"We all need to do our part in fighting this dreadful disease," Hutta says.
Cancer is something that has touched Hutta personally. His father died at age 62 from cancer, and seven years ago one of his staff members developed breast cancer, though she was able successfully treat it.
Hutta says that well over 50 percent of his patients are participating in the fundraiser. About several hundred have participated so far.
"Our slogan is 'think pink, do some good,'" he says.
