Back again for one night only, Shadowbox Live will light up the Columbus Commons with their performance of A Tribute to Joe Cocker: Mad Dog and Englishman at 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 4.
The tribute to John Robert “Joe” Cocker first appeared on stage last year a few months after the legendary musician’s passing. A Tribute to Joe Cocker: Mad Dog and Englishman showcases more than 20 songs by the Brit known for his gritty voice and unique body movements on stage.
Unlike previous performances of the tribute by Shadowbox Live, this one-night only performance in the Columbus Commons will feature the “With a Little Help from our Friends Community Choir.”
“The energy of this show has to be experienced to be believed,” says Stacie Boord, community relations director for Shadowbox Live. “This is some of the greatest, most soulful music ever written, and we love seeing the audience get swept up in it.”
Admission to the show is free, but an opportunity to be a part of the production does have a price tag. Spots in the Community Choir will be auctioned off to benefit the Shadowbox Live Academy.
“There are two ways to bid,” says Boord. “You can take your chances in a blind auction and hope your bid is high enough to get you into the choir, or you can bypass the auction completely and donate $1000 to secure your spot on stage.”
