Local Orchestras embark on 2015-2016 seasons
Oct. 2 will bring the first productions of the 2015-16 season for both the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and the New Albany Symphony Orchestra.
Columbus Symphony Orchestra: Carmina Burana
CSO, central Ohio’s oldest professional orchestra and only full-time professional symphony, presents Carmina Burana to open its 2015-2016 Masterworks season.
Conducted by the new Music Director Rossen Milanov, the show will take place at 8 p.m. Oct. 2 and 3 at the Ohio Theatre, 39 E. State St.
Rossen Milanov is also the music director of the Princeton Symphony and of the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias (OSPA) in Spain, and he recently completed his first season with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he completed a 15-year run as Music Director of the Symphony in C, in N.J. this year.
The evening will also feature other musicians, including guest vocalists Jennifer Zetlan, Christopher Pfund and Hugh Russell, as they join the Columbus Symphony Chorus. Additionally, the orchestra will pay tribute to composer Donald Harris with his composition, A Lyric Fanfare.

New Albany Symphony Orchestra: Remembering Marvin Hamlisch
NASO, a non-profit community orchestra that includes professional musicians, community players and students as members, will begin its new season with two performances of the concert, Remembering Marvin Hamlisch.
The concert will take place at 8 p.m. on Oct. 3 and at 3 p.m. on Oct. 4 at the McCoy Center for the Arts, 100 W. Dublin-Granville Rd., in New Albany.
The concert will honor the accomplishments of Marvin Hamlisch, one of America’s greatest composers, as well as winner of two Golden Globes, three Oscars, four Emmys, four Grammys, a Tony and a Pulitzer Prize.
In addition, the concert will include other musicians such as pianist Peter Dugan, soprano Valerie Lemon, soprano Marissa McGowan, violinist Charles Yang, baritone Rocky Paterra and the New Albany Center Stage Singers. The performances will be conducted by J. Ernest Green.
