Harvard political philosopher and New York Times bestselling author Michael Sandel will give a
lecture based on his book, Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do?, Jan. 28 as part of the New Albany Community Foundation’s Jefferson Series.
Held annually at the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts, The New Albany Community Foundation launched its Jefferson Series in 2014. The Foundation was encouraged by the success of its earlier lectures, which drew a former Secretary of State, a former Prime minister and two former U.S. Presidents as speakers.
Described by The Guardian as “the man who is currently the most effective communicator of ideas in English,” and by Newsweek as “the most relevant living philosopher,” Sandel is something of an academic rock star. His renowned course “Justice” has enrolled over 15,000 students and was the first Harvard course to be made freely available online.
Sandel incites discussion around some of the most prominent ethical questions of our time; his writings and lectures encourage moral reflection and public debate. Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do? has been translated into 27 languages and sold over 2 million copies worldwide.
Previous Jefferson Series guests include U.S. Senator and astronaut, John Glenn, and Limited Brands founder and philanthropist, Leslie Wexner.
The Jefferson Series featuring Michael Sandel will take place from 7-8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at www.newalbanyfoundation.org, www.ticketmaster.com or at any Ticketmaster location. Tickets cost $25-$35, and student/senior tickets are available for $10. For further information, call the New Albany Community Foundation at (614) 939-8150.
