Car enthusiasts, rev your engines. This weekend more than 6,000 hot rods, customs and classic cars will overrun the Ohio Expo Center.
The 18th annual Goodguys PPG Nationals will showcase 1972 and earlier cars and trucks Friday through Sunday with newer models to be displayed Sunday. The event, known as “the big one,” will feature more than 300 vendors along with automobiles from more than 39 states and provinces.
Goodguys Rod & Custom Association, a 70,000-member hot-rodding association, will offer a lot more than just show cars at the event.
Participants will be able to try out the Autocross timed race course throughout the weekend or watch competition in races for street machine of the year, street rod of the year and the sponsor shootout. The sponsor shootout will feature racers such as two-time Indy 500 winner Al Unser, Jr. and nine-time Pike’s Peak Hill Climb winner Robby Unser.
Kids can experience the Autocross course as well. Attendees can earn a ride with a pro driver by donating to the Austin Hatcher Foundation for pediatric cancer. Young car enthusiasts will also enjoy the model car Make 'n Take, coloring contest and other kids' activities.
On Friday, Goodguys Vintage Drags will take to National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio to provide drag racing excitement. Saturday will give attendees an opportunity to learn at “how to” seminars given by leading hot rod manufacturers.
The All-American Sunday will finish off the weekend by opening up the Expo Center to cars of any year that were made or powered in America. An awards ceremony and giveaway of a Scott’s Hotrods designed Goodguys G-10 will close out the day.
The PPG Nationals take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, visit www.good-guys.com
