Art forgery, international smuggling, pop superstars, endangered species, tech moguls, women’s rights, and social justice are some of the subjects that will be covered during the Gateway Film Center’s Columbus Documentary Week.
From Sept. 4-10, the Center will showcase 31 of the world’s best documentaries.
Opening night will feature Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine, an unflinching look at the innovator and founder of Apple. The documentary will continue running throughout the week.
Also running is the Sundance favorite Best of Enemies, a film that explores the dialogue between Gore Vidal and William F. Buckley, both outspoken cultural commentators for the left and right, respectively. The film focuses on their sparring of words and ideas in a series of debates that captivated the nation, ultimately paving the way for the cable news revolution.
Through Gateway Film Center’s partnership with the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, the week will also feature Bonobo’s: Back to the Wild, a film about the mysterious apes of the Congo and naturalist Claude Andre’s efforts to save them. Zoo board member Mary Rose will speak about the zoo’s continuous conservation efforts before the film’s Sept. 10 screening. Columbus Zoo members will be given a $6.50 discount for all films screening during the week if they present their membership card at the ticket counter.
