Don’t miss the premier production of “A Portable Theatre,” as it will debut this June in Central Ohio.
Dedicated to touring in Ohio, the new professional theater’s first production will be “The Duck Variations,” a comedy from Pulitzer Prize winning playwright David Mamet.
Geoffrey Nelson, founder and past artistic director of CATCO, will direct and act in the two-man play. Starring opposite Nelson will be acting veteran Jonathan Putnam, also of CATCO.
The short play centers around two elderly men, George (Putnam) and Emil (Nelson), who encounter each other in the park. Both as stubborn and opinionated as they are misinformed, the two debate on a variety of topics. In 14 short scenes, they will face off on such subjects as the weather, hunting, outer space, and of course, the life of the duck.
There will be a limited number of public performances through June in Central Ohio before the show is available for tour bookings throughout the state.
Tickets may be booked online at the theater’s website or at the door. Tickets are $20. Student tickets are $10. There is one discounted morning matinee on June 20 when all tickets are $15 or $10 for students.
There will be a special preview June 12 at 7 p.m. at the Franklin Park Conservatory. Tickets are $50 for this fundraiser, which includes a $30 tax-deductable donation. The opening is June 13 at 8 p.m. at the BalletMet Performance Space. Performances will continue there and at the Dublin Abbey Theatre through June 23.
