Colors don’t become popular solely because of their look and usage. While these factors are
definitely important, there is much more to it, says Sher Sagar of Sher Sagar Interior Design.
Colors that become popular in modern fashion have been growing in popularity in interior design as well.
“It is happening simultaneously,” Sagar says. “People are changing color schemes in houses as much as they are changing their wardrobe.”
People are often inspired by the colors in their closets when they are looking to add some color to their home.
“People actually tend to dress in the way that they decorate,” Sagar says. “When people open up their closets and see the color scheme, it could influence them to use that color in their home décor.”
In addition, current events and trends in the media can influence the popularity of colors. Modern movies, such as The Hunger Games series, or even things in the world that are commonly seen on social media, play a role, Sagar says.
Alabaster, in particular, is a color that has become popular due to what is happening in the world, whether from the constant improvements in technology or tragedies in the news. This color can help bring the feeling of calmness and peace.
“There is so much chaos and unrest in the world. People want calm and serene,” Sagar says. “Also, the speed of technology that is happening right now is so busy and people just want serenity, calmness and balance.”
