The kitchen’s vaulted ceiling was a part of the home Dave Fox wanted to take advantage of, as it previously went unnoticed. To bring it back into view, Dave Fox used reclaimed lumber for the ceiling beam treatment, then added 8-foot doors to showcase the height of the ceiling. Photos courtesy of Dave Fox

One of Courtney Burnett’s personal favorite parts of the Dave Fox-remodeled home is the white cork floor in the den and how it contrasts with the black patterned wallpaper. The stark contrast allows the homeowners’ art to be a real focal point. Photos courtesy of Dave Fox

More of the homeowners’ bold artwork is displayed in the living room, which posed a fun challenge for Dave Fox designers: design a unique room that complements the artwork without removing it as a focal point. What Burnett loves most about the master bathroom is the mix of materials used for its remodel. “It has a very simple, contemporary look,” says Burnett, “kind of earthy with its colors.” The large shower features two-person seating and an area to towel off to ensure that the rest of the bathroom floor stays dry. Kitchens, bathrooms, basements, additions, outdoor areas and entire houses are among the improved areas on display as part of the Fall Home Improvement Tour.
The tour, organized by the central Ohio chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, features a total of 15 newly remodeled homes. It takes place Sept. 24 and 25.
Among the remodelers represented are Nicholson Builders, Keefer Contractors, Griffey Remodeling, Dave Fox Design Build Remodeling, Central Ohio Remodelers, J.S. Brown & Co., Owens Construction, Collamore Built Residential Design, Miller Troyer Custom Homes, Riverstone Construction, the Cleary Company and Scott Hall Remodeling. Homes are in New Albany, Westerville, Powell, Dublin, Worthington, Upper Arlington and Bexley.
The home located at 8653 Sweetwater Ct. in Powell, a Dave Fox project, was remodeled in full after the homeowners, Kara Dusterhoft and Paul Kuhns, wanted to feel as though they were living in their own space rather than moving into someone else’s.
“We did a lot of work bringing in things they liked, colors they liked,” says Courtney Burnett, interior design manager for Dave Fox. “They travel a lot and had some art they wanted to showcase, and we wanted to incorporate that.”
Although the home on Sweetwater does have some traditional pieces to it, such as white cabinets in the kitchen, it boasts some unique flavors as well. The kitchen décor is fairly traditional, with a pop of blue in the cabinetry and island, evoking a contemporary feel. The den, which is open to visitors from the foyer, is particularly striking with white cork flooring and white paneling contrasting the black, geometric wallpaper.
“I love the whitewashed cork floor; it’s really unusual and beautiful,” says Burnett. “If people want to see something a little different and on point with style but unique, I think this house has a lot of that.”
