The Westerville North girl's lacrosse team is no stranger to paying it forward.
Last year, the team raised $50,000 for a local student to pay for a wheelchair lift van. Now the team has a new goal: raising $40,000 for Westerville Special Olympics.
To reach that goal, the team will host a silent auction and dinner from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at The Medallion Club, 5000 Club Dr. in Westerville. The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. and costs $25 per person to attend. The dinner and silent auction will be limited to the first 300 registrants.
Last year, a similar auction offered up 150 item packages up for bid, including Ohio STate and Blue Jackets tickts and memorabilia, entertainment packages and more.
The team is already on their way to meeting their fundraising goal. They hosted a Bowl-A-Thon in January at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace, which raised $8,000 toward their cause. The money they raise will help Westerville Special Olympics start three new sports for its athletes - cheerleading, bowling and softball - purchase new game and practice uniforms, cover expenses related to the summer State Games, provide necessary CPR and first aid training for coaches and more.
