Beginning Sept. 29, The Ohio State Department of Theatre will present an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. This year marks the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, but his words come to life in this 75-minute adaptation by Christopher Matsos.
Crafted specifically for young audiences, this Macbeth adaptation illustrates the consequences of an ambitious warrior and a promising prophecy that drives him to make a dreadful decision. The production takes place in a war-torn world where supernatural forces are at play.
Macbeth, directed by Geoffrey Wilson, showcases 10 actors and actresses from Ohio State’s theatre department, starring Eric Stoneman and Ally Davis as Macbeth and Lady Macbeth respectively. The show will only run for three days so be sure to take advantage of the opportunity to celebrate Shakespeare with such a unique adaptation.
The Ohio State University Department of Theatre conducts research and unique projects that contribute to the university as a whole. One project that partners with the Wexner Medical Center's Nisonger Center aims to break down communication barriers with children who have autism through Shakespeare. The rhythm of the iambic pentameter, which creates the sound of a heartbeat, creates a calming effect and a sense of safety.
To continue the celebration of Shakespeare, the theater department will also put on an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet in late October at Roy Bowen Theatre. The production, also adapted from Shakespeare’s original, will run for two weeks. For show times and more information on how to purchase tickets please visit theatre.osu.edu.
