Love will be in the air this Valentine’s Day as Opera Columbus captivates audiences with the tragically romantic Shakespeare classic, Romeo & Juliet.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Feb. 12 and at 3 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Ohio Theatre, 39 E. State St.
The immortal tale of ill-fated love is told through the sensual music of the great 19th century French composer Charles Gounod in this full length production. The opera features some of Gounod’s most lyrical music and captures the themes of love, fate, light and dark in this most famous of love stories.
Performing the roles of the star-crossed lovers, real-life husband and wife Jonathan Boyd and Malinda Haslett leave audiences spellbound with their passionate and expressive voices. The opera is sung in French with English supertitles and is complete with exquisite scenery and costumes, and is accompanied by the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
